School-Based Academic Coach Positions

The school-based academic coach delivers appropriate teacher-to-teacher coaching, modeling, mentoring and collaborating to promote a better articulated instructional curriculum for students. This position will also be responsible for coaching teachers about: data collection, analysis, interpretation and usage; research-based instructional strategies and programs; school improvement, and for building a shared knowledge base for teaching and learning throughout schools, resulting in improved effectiveness of classroom instructional practices and enhanced student achievement. This position will serve a specified school within the district. This position will be assigned to a Math, Reading or Science content area, for which s/he must be fully qualified. Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree is required. Must hold a valid Florida Professional Certificate and be fully qualified in the designated content area. A minimum of three to five years of experience as a highly effective classroom teacher is required, during which accomplishment in facilitating student learning gains was consistently demonstrated and may be proven by state and/or district assessment data or other documented evidence.

After-School Adventures Program Assistant

Intership opportunities for college students enrolled in a K-12 Education studies program or high school juniors or seniors planning to major in Elementary Education through working with the After-School Adventures Program.

Duties include supervision of students and reinforcement of instruction. The After-School Adventures Program is designed to support the enhancement of the required reading, mathematics, science and 21st Century Learning Skill through additional after-school learning time.

Specialized duties may require health and hygiene care to students, interpretation of speech and/or languages, operation of adaptive equipment and physical assistance to students as needed. Must be able to work effectively with children, assist with student supervision, and provide reinforcement of instruction

Positions are temporary and will end at the expiration of the After-School Adventures Program. Pay range $8.05 - $10.00 per hour and work schedule is 3 to 31/2 hours per day.

Americorps

Applications are now being accepted for our AmeriCorps Polk Reads program.  We are a K-3 tutoring program that partners with the Polk County School District, helping students that are reading below their current grade level.  Our members (tutors) go through training and are then placed in elementary schools where they provide one-on-one reading tutoring throughout the school day.  You will serve with other members at your selected site, and have the option of serving Full-time or Half-time.
