April 4 , 2016

A community meeting will be held on Monday, April 11, 2016 to discuss plans for Polk County’s newest public school: Citrus Ridge: A Civics Academy.

Attendees will have an opportunity to hear about Citrus Ridge and meet Principal Kathy Conely. The Davenport K-8 school’s mascot, colors and uniforms will also be discussed.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. in the media center at Ridge Community High, 500 Orchid Drive, Davenport.

Citrus Ridge: A Civics Academy is being built off Sand Mine Road in Davenport and scheduled to open in August for the start of the new school year.

It will be the first model civics-focused school in Polk County and is thought to be the first in Florida. Students will be immersed in civic engagement through learning the history of our democracy, participating in community service projects, character education and volunteer opportunities.
