Media Opportunity: News Conference Announcing Support for Turnaround Schools

Polk County Public Schools will host a news conference on Monday (Sept. 19) to outline plans for its five turnaround schools and recognize the outpouring of community support for these centers of learning.

The news conference will begin at 9:30 a.m. at Westwood Middle, 3520 Avenue J NW in Winter Haven.

“We are truly honored that the community continues to show support for our students and educators,” said Superintendent Jacqueline M. Byrd. “We know that hard work lies ahead, and greatly appreciate everyone’s help in meeting this challenge. We all want our children to be successful. We accomplish this by working together to increase academic performance and create a caring learning environment.”

At the news conference, Superintendent Byrd will provide a progress report on the turnaround schools as well as discuss ways that Polk County residents, businesses, and other institutions can help them.

The five turnaround schools are: Denison Middle, Kathleen Middle, Lake Alfred-Addair Middle, Shelley S. Boone Middle and Westwood Middle.
