Power Up Polk

Selected students will be notified by school administration.

This half-day second grade program is designed to support and remediate foundational reading skills and to increase students in grades K-2 reading success! (Principal Recommendation and specific entry criteria will apply due to limited seating)

Dates/Times

Instructional Days: June 12, 2017 – July 6, 2017 (Monday – Thursday) No school on Tuesday, July 4th.

Instructional Times: 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (5 hours per day)

By invitation only based on Reading proficiency (15 sites)

Only for students scoring Level 1 on Grade 3 Reading FSA

This half-day program is designed to support current 3rd grade students who scored a Level I on the Spring 2017 FSA ELA assessment and as prescribed under FL State Statute 1008.25 required to attend summer recovery and demonstrate reading proficiency for promotion to grade 4. This program will utilize a district designed reading curriculum using multiple resources to support third grade reading standards. Additionally, students will be engaged in targeted learning sessions for remedial support in the essential components of reading through phonemic awareness centers, computer centers, etc.

This summer program is designed to support middle and high school Algebra I students needing to recover an Algebra I Course grade of D or F and/or a Failing Score on the State End Of Course (EOC) Exam. Attending students will receive daily instruction on the fundamental concepts of algebra. Students will also receive remediation designed to prepare them for retaking the EOC exam at the end of summer session.

Priority by grade levels. Seniors needing credits for graduation have priority.

End-of-Course Retakes: July 10 – 13, 2017

This summer program is designed to support students who need to recover a course, in middle school; and a credit, in high school. The middle school will utilize Edgenuity, and the high school will use a blended approach that meets NCAA requirements.

Priority by grade levels. Seniors needing credits for graduation have priority.

This full-day early childhood program promotes student academic growth by supporting increase proficiency in reading, math, and social and emotional development. Current year VPK Certificate of Eligibility is required.

Exceptional Student Education (ESE), Extended School Year (ESY)

This program supports students who’s Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) specify the need for an extended school year program.

Title 1 Enrichment Program

Only available for students participating Grade 2 and 3 Power Up!

Fine Arts and Health/Physical Education

This program is offered at four (4) Title I Elementary summer sites (Wahneta, Laurel, Lena Vista, and Purcell) for students attending the Grade 2 and Grade 3 Power Up Program at these four sites. This program is offered after Power Up and incorporates the fine arts and fitness/health activities through extended day learning.

Bridge Programs

Ambassador/Leadership Academy

This is for students entering the 6th grade: Course #1700060 M/J Career Research and Decision-Making (0.5 middle school elective course completion) - Students will prepare for middle school and will learn study skills, character development, student success strategies, leadership skills.

Pre-Algebra Bridge

This is for students entering 8th grade: Designed to support students who have not taken Grade 7 Advanced Mathematics and entering Algebra I Honors next school year. Students will be taught Pre-Algebra course to ensure success in Algebra I Honors (pending needs assessment). Click here for Program Sites.

Leadership Course

This is for students entering the 9th grade: Course #2400320 Leadership Strategies (0.5 high school elective credit) – Students will learn leadership, character skills, and strategies to be successful in high school.
